Greetings!

Have you ever felt like dressing up just because? I have, and let me tell you—it's a wonderful feeling! As women, we often find ourselves in situations where we question whether we should stand out or blend in. Today, I want to encourage you to embrace the joy of dressing up and not be afraid to stand out.

I Felt Like Dressing Up… So I Did

Sometimes, the simple act of dressing up can boost your mood and confidence. Whether it's a bold dress, a statement necklace, or those fabulous shoes you’ve been saving for a special occasion, wearing something that makes you feel great can transform your day.

Don't Be Afraid to Stand Out

In the professional world and even in our everyday lives, it's easy to fall into the trap of dressing conservatively to fit in. However, standing out can be a powerful tool. When you dress up, you project confidence, creativity, and a sense of self-assuredness. These qualities can set you apart and make a lasting impression.

It's Okay to Be Dressed Up

There’s no rule that says you have to wait for a special occasion to dress up. If you feel like wearing your best outfit to a regular meeting or a casual Friday, go for it! Dressing up can elevate not only your appearance but also your mindset, making you feel more prepared and motivated.

I wore this dress to a school gala. The event was not formal and I knew people would dress in everything from jeans to cocktail attire. I knew that I wanted to dress up and feel special so while I might have been a little overdressed I felt AMAZING! There are exceptions and use your judgment when deciding when to go over the top 😉

Here are a few tips to confidently embrace dressing up:

Own Your Style: Choose outfits that reflect your personality and make you feel comfortable. When you feel good in what you're wearing, it shows.

Be Bold: Don’t shy away from colors, patterns, or accessories that make you happy. These elements can add a unique touch to your look.

Confidence is Key: Remember, confidence is the best accessory you can wear. When you carry yourself with confidence, people will notice the positive energy you exude.

“It is better to heed the rebuke of a wise person than to listen to the song of fools.”

Ecclesiastes 7:5

In the fast-paced world of the workplace and life in general, navigating challenges and making sound decisions can often feel overwhelming. One crucial factor in ensuring success and personal growth is the company we keep and the advice we heed. Ecclesiastes 7:5 offers timeless wisdom on this matter, emphasizing the value of wise counsel over the distracting noise of foolish flattery.

When deciding who you will allow to influence your journey, it's essential to evaluate their journey, behavior, reputation, and motives. Wise counsel should come from individuals who not only have extensive experience and knowledge but also possess the integrity to provide honest, constructive feedback. Such individuals are invaluable because they are willing to call you out—not in a demeaning way, but in a manner that fosters growth and improvement. They offer feedback that helps you become a better person, both at work and in your personal life.

We all make mistakes, have areas that need improvement, and have blind spots that can hinder our progress. Having someone in your circle who has navigated similar challenges and is rooting for your success can make a significant difference. These mentors or advisors are not just cheerleaders; they are also accountability partners who provide the tough love necessary for real growth. They help you see your shortcomings and encourage you to address them constructively.

Who is in your corner? If you haven't already started building this network, it's never too late. Seek out those individuals who exemplify wisdom, integrity, and a genuine desire to see you thrive. And most importantly, pray and seek wisdom from God about all who you desire to be a part of your tribe.

Side note: Your tribe can change over time as your and people’s seasons change. Know when to release people.

Greetings!

We are well into summer, and many of us look for ways to stay cool and comfortable while maintaining a professional appearance at work. One common question that arises is whether open-toe shoes are appropriate for the office. Here are some key considerations to help you navigate this footwear choice:

Know Your Office Dress Code

Before choosing open-toe shoes, it's essential to understand your company's dress code policy. Some workplaces have specific guidelines regarding footwear, while others may have more relaxed standards. Check your employee handbook or consult HR to ensure compliance.

Consider the Workplace Culture

Even if there isn't a formal dress code, the culture and environment of your workplace play a significant role in determining appropriate attire. In more conservative or traditional industries, closed-toe shoes may be the norm. In creative or casual settings, open-toe shoes might be more acceptable.

Opt for Professional Styles

If open-toe shoes are permissible, select styles that convey professionalism. Avoid overly casual or beach-like sandals. Instead, choose sophisticated designs such as peep-toe heels, heeled sandals, or slingbacks with a polished finish. We don’t want to hear your shoes flopping around the office.

Pay Attention to Grooming

When wearing open-toe shoes, ensure that your feet are well-groomed. Neatly trimmed nails and a polished pedicure contribute to a clean and professional appearance. Footwear should be in good condition, free of scuffs or wear.

Pair with Appropriate Attire

Balance your open-toe shoes with professional clothing. A structured dress, tailored pants, or a sleek skirt can complement your footwear and maintain a business-appropriate look. Avoid pairing open-toe shoes with overly casual outfits.

Prioritize Comfort and Functionality

Consider the comfort and functionality of your shoes, especially if you spend a lot of time on your feet. Choose styles with supportive soles and straps that keep your feet secure. Comfortable shoes will help you maintain a professional demeanor throughout the day.

No matter what shoes you choose, wearing them with confidence is crucial. When you feel good about your footwear, it reflects in your overall appearance and professional presence.

We hope these tips help you make informed decisions about incorporating open-toe shoes into your work wardrobe while maintaining a polished and professional look. And if you need a little inspiration check out our style guide lookbook or individual items.
